Africa has 17% of the world’s population whilst around 600m of its people still live without access to electricity. It has enormous potential driven by its large young and dynamic population and numerous natural resources. Amongst its most abundant resources is the largely untapped solar energy potential. Africa receives many more hours of bright sunshine during the course of the year than any other continent on Earth. The distribution of solar resources across Africa is fairly uniform with most of the continent’s landscape receiving a global solar horizontal irradiation of over 2000 kWh/m2 year. Despite this large solar potential, penetration of solar power in Africa’s energy sector is still very low. One of the biggest barriers to increasing the access of electricity in Africa is the lack of infrastructure, particularly, transmission lines. One of the main advantages of solar power is its capability to distribute energy to virtually any location in Africa without the need for expensive large scale transmission grids, i.e., the potential for mini grids.
Declining solar equipment costs are expected to significantly increase solar installations in Africa with an industry projection forecasting that the continent’s annual PV market will expand to 2.2 GW by 2018 from around 1.4 GW in 2015. The solar Photovoltaic (PV) space is consequently becoming increasingly contested in parts of Africa, particularly South Africa but the potential is still enormous and dedicated and cost effective suppliers will find competitive space. Inno8 energy, with its widespread networks on the continent and its industry knowledge and relationships is well positioned to bring the benefit of Solar PV to as many parts of Africa as possible.
Our main focus is the provision of green, reliable and cost-effective energy via solar power generation for which we offer tailor made modular to fully integrated turn-key power solutions for residential, commercial and industrial clients.
